Processor

When choosing a basic laptop processor, think about what activities you will be most focused on.

Integrated

Intel HD Graphics integrated graphics can handle Full HD video playback and are especially suitable for less demanding activities - the Internet, office applications, viewing photos, videos and watching movies.

Dedicated

Dedicated graphics cards are designed for more demanding users who want to work with graphics on the laptop or play casual games.

  • The NVIDIA GPUs are divided into two lines - the less powerful GeForce GT and the powerful GTX on games.
  • The AMD Radeon GPUs are labelled R2 to R9 - the higher the series, the more powerful the card.

Operation memory

The more RAMs the more tasks the laptop can handle simultaneously.

  • 4 GB - minimum for surfing the Internet and working with office applications.
  • 8 GB or more - Brisk work with many open browser windows and applications.

Basic laptops with DDR3 memory are cheaper and fully sufficient for normal use. More expensive models have DDR4 RAM, which is faster, but more expensive.

Storage

When selecting the base notebook storage, both the disk capacity and the type of drive are important.

  • eMCC flash - The cheapest type of storage, usually has low capacity, slower speed and can not be replaced by larger.
  • HDD - High disk capacity at a favorable price. The disk is more susceptible to shocks and mechanical damage.
  • SDD - Extremely fast disk without moving particles. Compared to the HDD, it usually offers less capacity and is more expensive.
  • HDD and SSD - there are two hard drives in the notebook - HDD for bulky data, SSD for fast operation of the operating system.
  • SSHD - The combination of a regular HDD is typically a 8GB SSD cache for speeding up the notebook.

eMCC flash memory and solid state drives are shock-resistant. However, the SSD offers significantly higher capacity and speed than eMCC. In addition, it can be replaced for a larger capacity drive, while the eMCC flash memory is integrated on the motherboard of the notebook.

Additional equipment for basic notebooks

  • Illuminated keypad - it will be convenient to work long into the night.
  • Numeric keypad - better to enter numeric data.
  • TrackPoint - Allows you to move the cursor without having to lift your hands from the keyboard.
  • Optical Drive - for reading and burning CDs and DVDs.
